Gallery Explorers: What’s Old, What’s New?: Museum of the Shenandoah Valley 10:15–11:15 a.m. In this fun program, children—stroller/preschool through age 7—will discover how everyday objects have changed over the years during a tour of the Shenandoah Valley Gallery. A hands-on art activity will take place after the guided tour. The program will be led by Judy Greathouse, a former elementary school teacher and MSV docent. March 3–Bridgewater.
Did you ever want to explore, discover, uncover, or simply learn about Virginia’s fascinating past? Come to a meeting of the Massanutten Chapter of the Archeological Society of Virginia at Arey Hall of Bridgewater Municipal Building, 201 Green Street. March 6-7–Waynesboro.
145th Anniversary of the Battle of Waynesboro (March 2, 1865). This annual event honors our brave Confederate and Union soldiers who gallantly fought here. Saturday battle will recreate the last battle fought by General Early in the Shenandoah Valley on the outskirts of the city of Waynesboro against General Custer’s Cavalry. Sunday battle to simulate the actions of Major William Patrick’s 17th VA Btn of Cavalry against Poe’s 2nd Michigan in Jackson’s rear at 2nd Manassas. The weekend will also feature memorial services for Confederate dead buried in Waynesboro, and a graveside memorial and Iron Cross dedication at Major Patrick’s grave. 540-943-3943.

Galleries at Night: Robbie Egger, Museum of the Shenandoah Valley: 4-9 p.m. On this special day, the galleries are open from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m.! The evening's highlight will be a concert by Shenandoah Valley musician Robbie Egger. A soloist known for his acoustic melodies, Robbie will play a blend of Irish music, classical tunes, original songs, and a few familiar tunes. MSV Workshop: Legacy Creations, Museum of the Shenandoah Valley: 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Do you have photographs, letters, gloves, postcards, and other treasured family mementos stored in a box or drawer? Bring your family treasures to this workshop and learn how to assemble your special heirlooms in a frame or box that you can display and enjoy. You don't need artistic experience to create these assemblages of objects. Instructors Cynthia Fraula-Hahn and Debbie Giammaraco will guide and help you every step of the way. The workshop fee includes a frame or wooden box. If you do not wish to use original letters or pictures in your artwork, please bring copies to the workshop. First Kernstown Anniversary Event:  "This Day of Horrors": Jackson's Valley Campaign Begins, Museum of the Shenandoah Valley: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tour the grounds of the famous First Battle of Kernstown and interact with living historians who will discuss and demonstrate the importanceof Jackson's 1862 Valley Campaign. On both days, historians from the Constitution Fencibles will demonstrate daily camp activities and military duties from a Confederate perspective. The Constitution Fencibles have presented programs about the common soldier at many national historical parks, including Harpers Ferry, Gettysburg, Antietam, and Appomattox. On Saturday at 1:30 p.m., Gary Ecelbarger, Civil War historian and author of We Are In For It!: The First Battle of Kernstown, will lead a guided battlefield tour. On the tour, he will retrace the battle's movements, discuss military tactics, and share personal stories of the soldiers involved in the fight. Location: Rose Hill, 1850 Jones Road, Winchester.
