August 1–Lexington.
Bring the whole family, including pets, to Hull’s drive-in out for a night of good ‘old fashioned fun at Hull’s Drive-in. The movies are “Marmaduke” and “Grown Ups”, they begin at dusk. $6/adults; free for kids.

August 1-7–Front Royal.
Warren County Fair at the Fairgrounds, 26 Fairgrounds Road. Live entertainment, animal shows, exhibits, tractor pull, master of the chainsaw, circus, and more. Demolition derby on the 2nd, and the 5th. ATV dirt drag racing on the 6th. Admission fee. 540-635-5827.

August 1-29–Harrisonburg.

August 2-30–Staunton.
Stonewall Brigade band concert at Gypsy Hill Park bandstand at 7:30 p.m. every Monday. Concerts are held regardless of weather. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. Children and pets are welcome. 540-332-3835.

August 2-31–New Market.
Walking Tours sponsored by the Apple Blossom Inn. Tours will be highlighting the colonial times to the present with a costumed historian daily at 10:30 a.m. except Sunday. Hear eyewitness accounts, folklore, and music of the Shenandoah Valley. 540-740-3747.

August 3-7–Bergton.

August 3-31–Staunton.
“Praise in the Park” at the Gypsy Hill Park Gazebo. Every Tuesday at 7 p.m. there will be a mix of Christian music, including southern gospel, country, bluegrass, and Christian rock. 540-332-3865.

August 4–Bridgewater.
Did you ever want to explore, discover, uncover, or simply learn about Virginia’s fascinating past? Come to a meeting of the Massanutten Chapter of the Archeological Society of Virginia at Arey Hall of Bridgewater Municipal Building, 201 Green Street. Caverns Shrine Club presents their 6th Annual Bluegrass Music Festival at Page Valley Fairgrounds, rain or shine. August 6-8–Verona.
Oak Grove Folk Music Festival located 2.1 miles west of Verona on Rt. 612, Quicks Mill Road. The festival has been the outstanding value for the young and old alike. This year’s headliners are Dale Jett, “Cousins”, “The Judy Chops”, “Honey Dewdrops”, Missy Raines and “New Hip”. Special Guests are Eli Cook on the 6th, Robin and Linda Williams on the 7th, and Verlon Thompson on the 8th. Gospel sing and jam session at 10:30 a.m. on the 8th. August 7–Staunton.
Join us at Shenandoah Harley-Davidson/Buell located at 213 Rolling Thunder Lane, for “Ms. SHD and Last Band Standing”. Two hot competitions simultaneously. Dealership will open at 9 a.m., vendors will open at 11:00 a.m. Fun and music will start around 1:00 p.m. Local ladies from the area will be judged in club wear, biker wear and bathing suits! Shenandoah Harley-Davidson partnered with local rock radio station 98.5 to host a final showdown for 6 local music groups, all performing sets during the MS SHD Contest. One set of judges decide who will be the “Last Band Standing” and MS. SHD for 2011. Plenty of food, cold beverages, attractions and vendors will be available. August 7–Highland County.
“Mountain Mama” Road Bike Challenge will start at the Highland County Recreation Commission parking lot, and the “Earth Roast” will be held at the Mill Gap Ruritan Grounds. This event is a fund-raiser. 540-468-2552.

Clarke County Fair at the Ruritan Fairgrounds (860 West Main Street). Old fashioned country fair with lots of modern activities. A demolition derby on the 8th and 14th. Bull riding and a rodeo on the 13th. Also carnival rides, animal shows, animal beauty contests, music and other entertainment. 75th Annual Old Fiddler’s Convention at Felts Park. 6th Annual Yard Crawl, all along the infamous Route 11. The event will feature our historic towns New Market, Mt. August 20-21–Nationwide (special).
Join us in paying tribute on this 10th Annual Commemorative Motorcycle Ride in Remembrance of those who served, protected, lost their lives, and to the volunteers from September 11, 2001. August 20-28–Staunton.
13th Annual Staunton Music Festival. Continuing a tradition, SMF opens “Summer Sounds” with a night of works by central European composers, beginning with Strauss’ waltz that gives the concert its name. The concerts will be held a various locations. For more information call 540-569-0267.

August 21–Front Royal.
“On the River Fest”, at the VFW event grounds, 1847 N. Royal Ave. Local music, great food, demonstrations, fun activities for the kids and more! The Frontier Culture Museum will host the “Shenandoah Valley Bluesfest”.
