April 3–Stephens City.
9th Annual Kite Flying Festival! Free kites for kids while supplies last. Bring your whole family and your kites to Sherando Park from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Members of the Richmond Air Force will be on hand to discuss the science behind kite flying, the history of kites, and weather permitting they will be demonstrating some high-flying kite tricks! April 3, 10–Middletown.
Annual Easter egg hunt and family fun day.  Children ages 10 and under hunt for eggs filled with candy and special prizes. The Easter Bunny presides over games. Refreshments, and an old-fashioned cakewalk after the hunt. Admission fee on the 3rd; Free Admission Day, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on the 10th. April 7-8–Lexington.

April 7-28–Staunton.

April 9-11–Roanoke.
The Civic Center will host the “Blue Ridge Bike Fest”. There will be stunt shows from the A-Team and the ever popular Harley Stuntster. April 9-23–Lexington.
Virginia Military Institute for Leadership and Ethics, will show the following movies starting 8 p.m. at their Marshall Hall: “Sophie’s Choice” on the 9th; “Battle of Algiers” on the 16th; “Amistad” on the 23rd. Before the film, a faculty member or cadet will introduce the movie. 540-464-7361.

April 10–Staunton.

April 10–Lexington.
Scots/Irish Heritage Festival at Maury River Middle School , 600 Waddell Street. Parade along Wallace Street. April 10-29–Harrisonburg.
Rockingham County Fair Grounds will host the AKC Dog Show. Show will feature about 1000 dogs competing in AKC conformation and obedience events. Vendors will be selling pet related items and food. 540-434-0005.

April 11, 25–Waynesboro.
Open House at the Wildlife Center of Virginia. See the inner workings of the nation’s premier wildlife hospital, as well as meet some of the 20 non-releasable animals. April 11-May1–Lexington.

New Market Day parade and ceremony at the Virginia Military Institute, starting at 2 p.m. Virginia Military Institute will be honoring its fallen cadets that died at the Battle of New Market. 540-464-7313.

April 16–Waynesboro.

April 16–Waynesboro.
Join us for our “River City Radio Hour” event in the Blue Ridge Christian Fellowship building, 329 Main Street. The show includes local musicians/comedy combined with original radio serials. April 16-18–Harrisonburg.

April 17–Winchester.
First Kernstown Battlefield Tour, at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley from 1-4 p.m. This is the only battle that Stonewall Jackson ever lost. Tour the grounds of the famous First Battle of Kernstown during this opening of the Museum’s Rose Hill property. For this special day commemorating the battle’s anniversary, costumed interpreters will be at Rose Hill, 1850 Jones Road. Admission is free with purchase of MSV gallery admission on this day, or $5 for Rose Hill only ($5 admission payable at Rose Hill.

April 17-18–Waynesboro.
10th Annual Virginia Fly Fishing Festival will be held on the South River at Constitution Park. The festival is your one-stop shop for gear, expert advice and instruction. Lectures, demonstrations, raffles, and Virginia wineries tasting area. Live music, and a variety of food. Also you can fish the South River. April 17-25–Statewide.
Visitors will step through the gates of more than 250 of Virginia’s most beautiful gardens, homes and historic landmarks during the 77th Annual Historic Garden Week.  Schedule of events vary, so check with your local Chamber of Commerce or visit their web site at www.vagardenweek.org.

April 21-24–Staunton.
“Wool Days” at the Frontier Culture Museum. Come watch our staff as they shear the sheep, then demonstrate wool carding and spinning. 540-332-7850.

April 21-24–Vinton.

April 22–Luray.

April 22-24–Fort Defiance.
Come visit the Augusta Military Academy’s “Reunion 2010”, eight miles north of Staunton on Rt 11. Watch the cadets and alumni march in competition, view the military equipment, and visit the museum. Also lunch is available for $25.00. For more information call 540-248-3007.

April 23-May 2–Winchester.
83rd Annual Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival.  Featuring crafters, dances, carnival, parades, band competitions, circus and more. Also Fire fighters events, fireworks, and the coronation of the Apple Blossom Queen. 540-662-3863.

April 24–Waynesboro.
Riverfest–“Year of the Wood Duck” at Constitution Park from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Highlights are fish’n fun rodeo, stream safari, reptile shows, and canoe rides. Also the popular eyeball to eyeball encounter with every fish species hauled into the river bank aquarium. April 25–Winchester.
29th Annual Fishing Derby at Clearbrook Park from 8-11 a.m. Anglers of all ages are invited to wet their lines for a chance to win some great prizes. Bring all your gear and licenses if applicable. April 25-29–Harrisonburg.
Rockingham County Fairgrounds events: Virginia Historic Bottle Diggers Bottle Show. Displays of many bottle collections and other collectibles. Admission fee on the 25th; Cole Bros.
